This study aimed to evaluate which Probabilistic Density Function (PDF) best represents the diameter structure of Ocotea pulchella (Nees & Mart.) Mez, Lithraea brasiliensis Marchand, Nectandra megapotamica (Spreng.) Mez and Matayba elaeagnoides Radlk., in fragments of Mixed Ombrophilous Forest (MOF) with a history of selective felling, in Campo Belo do Sul, Santa Catarina State, Brazil. Widely used probabilistic models such as Beta, Exponential, Normal, Log-Normal, Weibull 2p, and 3p were fitted and compared using statistical goodness-of-fit criteria, namely: Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Akaike (AIC) and Bayesian (BIC) Information Criteria, log-likelihood, pseudo-R² and standard error of the estimate. The results indicated that the Weibull 3p model exhibited the best performance for all species, showing greater accuracy in representing the diametric frequency distribution. M. elaeagnoides exhibited a pattern close to an inverted J-shape, indicating continuous regeneration, while N. megapotamica showed low density in the smaller diameter classes, suggesting recruitment limitations. O. pulchella and L. brasiliensis showed greater structural irregularity, possibly associated with selective felling and population reorganization over time. It was concluded that PDFs, especially the Weibull 3p, are efficient tools for describing the diameter structure of these species, contributing to the management, conservation, and restoration of MOF areas with a history of selective felling.
