Abstract

The wood of Brazilian pine (Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol.) O. Kuntze) had great economic importance in Brazil, mainly between 1930 to 1970. The deforestation caused a drastic reduction in population size of Brazilian pine and currently it integrates the list of Brazilian threatened species. The aim of thisreview was to present the potential of generating income from Brazilian pine plantation for pine nuts production and the consequent species conservation. According to the literature, pine nuts can generate more income than Brazilian pine wood, when used appropriate management techniques. The plantation with economic interest in pine nuts is an effective tool to increase planting and reduce exploitation of the Brazilian pine remaining. It is necessary to propose strategies in partnership among producer and collectors organizations, researchers and Brazilians government agencies to develop and improve management techniques, processing and marketing of the pine nuts.

Moeses Andrigo Danner, Epagri

É Engenheiro Agrônomo (2006) e Mestre em Agronomia (2009 - Bolsista CAPES) pela UTFPR, Campus Pato Branco. Professor substituto do curso de Agronomia da UTFPR, Campus Pato Branco, das disciplinas de Estatística e de Genética e Melhoramento Vegetal (de 03/2008 a 12/2009). Doutorando em Agronomia (Produção Vegetal) na UFPR, Curitiba. Revisor científico da Revista Brasileira de Fruticultura. Extensionista rural da Epagri (Empresa de Pesquisa Agropecuária e Extensão Rural de Santa Catarina) desde 17/06/2010. Atua nos temas: caracterização de fruteiras nativas do Sul do Brasil, manejo e melhoramento de fruteiras de caroço e caracterização da variabilidade genética de Araucaria angustifolia.

Flávio Zanette, Universidade Federal do Paraná

possui graduação em Engenharia Agronomica pela Universidade Federal do Paraná (1970), mestrado em Fitotecnia pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (1978) e doutorado em Fitotecnia - Universite de Clermont II (1981). Atualmente é professor titular sênior da Universidade Federal do Paraná. Tem experiência na área de Agronomia, com ênfase em Arboricultura, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: micropropagação,propagação vegetativa, poda, dormência, morfogênese, raiz, macieira e araucária.

Juliana Zanetti Ribeiro, Universidade Federal do Paraná

Possui graduação em Ciências Biológicas pela Universidade Federal do Paraná (1999), mestrado em Genética pela Universidade Federal do Paraná (2002) e doutorado em Genética pela Universidade Federal do Paraná (2011). Tem experiência na área de Biologia e Agronomia, com ênfase em Melhoramento de Plantas, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: fungos entomopatogênico e causadores de doenças no milho, controle biológico, melhoramento de plantas, ferramentas moleculares no melhoramento e conservação.
