Due to the difficulty in obtaining seeds with good physiological quality and ideal techniques for seminiferous reproduction, the study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of scarification on overcoming the dormancy of seeds of jatobá (Hymenaea oblongifolia and Hymenaea courbaril var. stilbocarpa). The experimental design was completely randomized with four replications of 25 seeds. The following treatments were used: intact seeds (control), mechanical scarification with sandpaper number 100 in the opposite side to the embryo, and treatment of scarification with concentrate sulfuric acid (H2SO4) during 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes. The mechanical and chemical scarification for 30 and 60 minutes were effective pre-germination treatments on overcoming seeds dormancy of Hymenaea oblongifolia and Hymenaea courbaril var. stilbocarpa.Downloads
