Abstract

This study uses data derived from the reorganization of the Apidae and Formicidae in the Embrapa Florestas Entomological Collection. The aim was to describe the processes of material recovery, as well as to analyze its composition in terms of taxonomic aspects, abundance, and geographic distribution, aiming to support the diagnosis and analysis of forest systems. Specimen cleaning protocols and digital curation procedures were described. The databases used for collection data deposition are also presented. A total of 4,574 specimens were analyzed, with a predominance of Formicidae and lower representation of Apidae and other families. The genera Pheidole and Melipona were the most frequent, while Acromyrmex crassispinus was the most abundant species. The collection primarily represents the southern region of Brazil, especially the state of Paraná, but also includes records from other regions and a few international specimens. A significant portion of the material requires identification at the species level, highlighting the need for further taxonomic efforts by specialists. This study enhances data accessibility and strengthens the potential of the collection for research in biodiversity, pest management, and conservation, making it an operational tool for diagnosis, monitoring, and environmental planning in forest systems.
